Happy Birthday …!!!

May 15, 2007

Happy Birthday

I just happened to read Himank’s latest post on “Birthday” or I should rather say “boring B’day”, and I came to think how does a B’day matter to me. When I look back my past 20 B’days there is not a single day which is not memorable (leaving those initials when I used to wear a nappy :P ). I don’t understand how can you say your B’day just another day, man!! This was the day when you came into existence, this was the day when you first opened your eyes, don’t you want to make that day special when your mother for the first time gave you a hug. I don’t understand when people say that their B’day is not special, when they remember the day when they first got drunk, or they will remember the day when they will, for the first time, kiss a girl.

As far as I am concerned, my B’days are always special, if not for anyone, for me. I still remember those childhood B’days when I used to wear new cloths, distribute toffies in school, celebrating with a party at home with lots of presents and a cake (that too of my choice). That used to be the day when mom couldn’t scold me, I could do whatever I like. I still remember how my eagerness to see whats inside those glittering papers used to overcome the strength of sleep to conquer my red eyes. As I grew older my way of celebrating the B’day changed, there used to be just a group of about 6-7 friends and we used to close a room and dance there, a smile still appear on my face when I recall how my sisters used to peek through the windows to see what we were doing. When I came to IIIT the tradition further changed, I was hit by eggs all over my body and was bathed by two buckets of cold water in February. It was really a memorable day and, if not best, one of the best B’days I have ever had. Later when I went to coffee shop, after having a bath, I was given a face massage by vanilla cream and a gift (which I can never forget). It was special as I even enjoyed washing my clothes full with egg-white, smelling horribly, till 3 O’clock in the morning. And again on my recent B’day they had a different plan, apart from a hell lot of bumps, they had egg and flour with them (don’t know they wanted to bake a cake or what??), which they poured on my head. I was made to walk around the campus in the same state, and was also made to do a cabaret at the smoker’s point with around 20 people circling me.

Apart from all those contributions from my family members and friends I use to make my B’day special. I get up early in the morning, go to a temple (or here in IIIT at least devote prasad to god), make a B’day resolution (I know it’s no use to make a resolution which you cant keep a month, but somehow it feels good), and do all those things which make me feel good. Calls from family members, cousins and old friend make the day more special, and if there is a surprise waiting for you, its like topping on the cake.

Well, the post is getting longer so I would like to conclude it by saying that its you who make your B’day special and no one else. So from now onwards try wishing yourself Happy Birthday before anyone else do and you will find it the most special day in your life.

  1. as i was reading ur post every line reminded me of my b’days … i mean when i was still in my childhood
i can recollect some memories of those delightful days
and i totally agree with u dude …
    b’days are always special :)

  2. I agree that when we were young, our birthdays were great.Wearing those caps and blowing candles and enjoying with friends is really good. But thats it..Com’on now here in IIIT,what was so special on anybodys birthday, except for grabbing the attention of the friends on that day,the day you are special.Bumps, cake, few presents if any and spending lots of bucks. and ya getting calls from cousins.I wouldnt even mind if they forget. They have too many things to be concerned right!!Thats it!! I dont see anything great in it. I would love to celebrate it the way we used to do when we were kids even now.My birthday wouldnt have been special to me,without my brother. When I am out of IIIT,away from my loved family,Iam sure to be thinking “What the hell is soo special for me to jump around!!Its afterall just my birthday !!”..

PS: No offence intended on anybody..Juss penning my thoughts.. :)

  6. Dude … u shudnt have referred to himanks birthday as
a boring Bday , because no where in his post he has said that his bday was boring , he said he enjoyed dancing , the ‘cool’ drinks , the bumps and the BC in the end . He just said that birthdays arent special .. and i guess u shud respect everbodys point of view .
It’s simple see , everone cant be george micheal … in the same way everyone cant be you so , u gotta respect his views too dude ..

Anywayz Tere jaise post likha ( Pun intended :D ) ;)
PS: I am not a fan of george micheal :D

  7. @Deepti : Friend you are away from your home .. accept this thing .. may be you dun realize, for obvious reasons, that you are .. but ask those who have not been to their home for 5 months … and when you accept this you will get what I wanted to say … even your family members will be happy if you njoi ur b’day to the fullest..
@Maruti : From himank’s post “Boring B’day” was what I deduced. thats why I have written … no offences meant !!
@All : Either do comment or dont but 8least dun give link to your comment .

  8. Hey buddy i never at any point of time said that mine was a boring birthday.. it was one of the coolest.. i think you didnt get what i wanted to convey… i was so happy that people wished and all.. The point i was trying to make was that nothing is special from your side or from some almighty power its just that your friends wish you and celebrate the day coz you told them that it was ur b’day today… and if u wud have told them some other day was ur b’day then they wud hav wished u on that day on which u werent born.. so no big deal in that…

  9. Well my family would be more happy if I spend every day to the fullest not just my birthday. And I know exactly how it feels to be away from people whom you love the most..Why should I accept the fact that I am away from home, when I am NOT !!And I understand all your views but as I said I just penned my thoughts.I just meant there is nothing so special about that day.You groom yourself with extra care, give a big treat to whom you think should be given, and then what!!!I agree with himank and I dont need to make my point again :)

  10. Anyways lotta affray going on here .As far as i think so ,its not the gray matter of discussion to concern for .it only depends on the point of view that , what a subject vits from his or her acumen. Neways concerning on the core topic i found that the bday can be made special if special people are round there with you.The memoirs could be the footmark for the whole life .Neways piyush as far as i can recall i think most of the times i was present on your bday that event you recalled make me to remind the reflushing of the scenerio in snaps slideshow and you know still those awing moments could be easily restored in the current memo as if they wud have happened by just now.Well the most outstanding thing about your dextrous adroitness is that the matter you write goes in flow and are capable to stir up the eyes of reader till it reach to end.Kewl writing skills

    keep going keep writing

actually when i looked squintally on this post i feel …. u have emblazoned the post by ur erudite writing style .:)
the savor of birthdays ( that differs as u have mentioned what it used to be at home and what it is now in the
college ) is like an enigma …

anyways i never celebrate my birthdays … for me its like any other day or say artifact ….

  14. i am more of the himank’s view… even i compare with ne othr day when i hv a gud party/outing unless something very special happens on it
