Happy Birthday …!!!

Happy Birthday

I just happened to read Himank’s latest post on “Birthday” or I should rather say “boring B’day”, and I came to think how does a B’day matter to me. When I look back my past 20 B’days there is not a single day which is not memorable (leaving those initials when I used to wear a nappy :P ). I don’t understand how can you say your B’day just another day, man!! This was the day when you came into existence, this was the day when you first opened your eyes, don’t you want to make that day special when your mother for the first time gave you a hug. I don’t understand when people say that their B’day is not special, when they remember the day when they first got drunk, or they will remember the day when they will, for the first time, kiss a girl.

As far as I am concerned, my B’days are always special, if not for anyone, for me. I still remember those childhood B’days when I used to wear new cloths, distribute toffies in school, celebrating with a party at home with lots of presents and a cake (that too of my choice). That used to be the day when mom couldn’t scold me, I could do whatever I like. I still remember how my eagerness to see whats inside those glittering papers used to overcome the strength of sleep to conquer my red eyes. As I grew older my way of celebrating the B’day changed, there used to be just a group of about 6-7 friends and we used to close a room and dance there, a smile still appear on my face when I recall how my sisters used to peek through the windows to see what we were doing. When I came to IIIT the tradition further changed, I was hit by eggs all over my body and was bathed by two buckets of cold water in February. It was really a memorable day and, if not best, one of the best B’days I have ever had. Later when I went to coffee shop, after having a bath, I was given a face massage by vanilla cream and a gift (which I can never forget). It was special as I even enjoyed washing my clothes full with egg-white, smelling horribly, till 3 O’clock in the morning. And again on my recent B’day they had a different plan, apart from a hell lot of bumps, they had egg and flour with them (don’t know they wanted to bake a cake or what??), which they poured on my head. I was made to walk around the campus in the same state, and was also made to do a cabaret at the smoker’s point with around 20 people circling me.

Apart from all those contributions from my family members and friends I use to make my B’day special. I get up early in the morning, go to a temple (or here in IIIT at least devote prasad to god), make a B’day resolution (I know it’s no use to make a resolution which you cant keep a month, but somehow it feels good), and do all those things which make me feel good. Calls from family members, cousins and old friend make the day more special, and if there is a surprise waiting for you, its like topping on the cake.

Well, the post is getting longer so I would like to conclude it by saying that its you who make your B’day special and no one else. So from now onwards try wishing yourself Happy Birthday before anyone else do and you will find it the most special day in your life.
